How did you get started with Crossfit?
I was very active in high school and never had to worry about what I did or ate. My weight gradually went up after college when I stopped playing sports; then after marriage & kids, I was suddenly 4 sizes bigger. My youngest started preschool so I decided it was time to do something for myself. I was determined to get healthy. I prayed & asked God to help me & my answer came as an invitation to try Crossfit. I called my friend Jobeth about getting together to workout and she told me to meet her at Crossfit. I ended up going 4 days that week and officially joined the gym on my 4th day.I started with 3 days a week and now I am at 5-6 days/week. I sometimes have to wake up at 4:15 AM to make it to the 5:15 class. I am not a morning person, so you know I LOVE it and think it is worth it. For so many years I have worried about what my body looked like and now I just want to find out what it can do!
What do you remember about your first WOD? Or what is one memorable WOD for you?
My first warm up felt like a workout to me….I remember thinking ”there’s more?” I also did not understand anything Justin was talking about. The first few months I had to Google all the Crossfit terms the night before. I am proud to say I speak fluent Crossfit now.
Favorite Crossfit Greenwood moments?
I loved participating in the Open. It really pushed me to go past my comfort zone & I came out at the end so much better than I was before.
I love when anyone at the gym finally gets something they have been working towards. I love how everyone celebrates each other’s successes.
Stephanie, Marianna, and Justin may think that me getting stuck on a box was a favorite moment but I don’t agree. But it was a good laugh!
I love all things weightlifting….even snatches (we have a love/hate relationship)
Least favorite WOD/Skill:
Wall balls … I can squat….I can throw a ball…..I do not like to do them together
Hobbies, Interests, or Talents outside of Crossfit:
I am a mom. I love working with kids. I am a Youth Director at my church and will be opening Busy Bees Preschool at Abbeville Presbyterian Church in August. I also love to travel and one of my favorite places to be is in an airport…one, because that means I am going somewhere and two because the people watching is fantastic (there are some interesting people in this world – and they are all at the airport!!)
What are your goals in terms of Crossfit or Fitness in general?
Crossfit has changed my list from just “lose weight” to improve my lifting form, stop whipping myself doing DUs, make it to the top of that rope (and know how to get down), be able to do toes to bar in a WOD, get pull ups and ring dips, increase my box jump speed, and so on. I have already achieved so many goals that I set and moved on to set new ones. There is no greater feeling than finally getting something that you once thought would never be possible. There truly are no limits!
Any advice for people just getting started?
Don’t get frustrated, stay the course and you will succeed. Keep away from the scale…change that mindset. Put your focus on being better than you were the last time you stepped in the gym. You will get results!! Get to know the people at CFG, they are amazing, each and every one! And lastly….never miss a Monday!
